Review of The Friends We Keep by Susan Mallery

The Friends We Keep (Mischief Bay, #2)The Friends We Keep by Susan Mallery
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first Susan Mallery book I have read. And let me say this. This woman knows how to write characters that feel real. The three women, who are friends in this book, each face their own struggle in their married/post divorced life. The way in which it is written, you can feel for each and understand their feelings. It is not a touchy-feeling, stars and rainbows book but the stories are heart-felt, sometimes tough and uncomfortable. The way life really is.
The book started off slow but as it progressed the characters drew you into their friendship and their personal struggles. By the middle of the book, I didn’t want to put it down because I wanted to know how Gabby was going to deal with her step-daughter’s teen pregnancy and her marriage, how Hayley would handle not being able to bare children but keep her husband, and watch Nicole move out of her hiding place into the dating world. The women were strong, supportive and nonjudgmental with each other. It was a beautiful story of sisterhood the way it should be. The sexy parts were tasteful and sweet. I will be reading more of this author for sure.
